Welcome to the Department of Public Finance...

 

The Department of Public Finance is an academic unit with a deep-rooted history that provides higher education services under the Faculty of Economics of Marmara University. "Public Finance -Accounting Chair", which is one of the three fields of specilisation established in 1959 within the body of İstanbul Economics and Commercial Sciences Academy (IECSA), which constitutes the core of our university, forms the basis of our department. After the change, it continued as "Economics-Public Finance Chair". The "Department of Public Finance", which was established in 1984 under the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, with the transformation of IECSA into Marmara University in 1982, still continues its higher education activities under this name. The deep-rooted history of our department has bequeathed a strong  academic tradition that our academic staff are continuing today.

There are four sub departments in our department: Fiscal Law, Theory of Public Finance, Public Economics, and Budget and Fiscal Planning. In addition to undergraduate education, thesis and non-thesis master's and doctorate programs, which are opened under the branches of Fiscal Law, Fiscal Theory and Financial Economics, are carried out by our department within the scope of the Social Sciences Institute.

 

Five professors, an associate professor, eight assistant professors, a lecturer and four research assistants conduct their academic activities in our department. In addition, the courses in the fields of law, economics, accounting and business in our program are carried out by expert lecturers from the relevant departments and lecturers assigned by our university. In this respect, our department continues its teaching activities with a large number of faculty members and assistants, each of whom is an expert in their own field.

 

In our department, in addition to public finance, public economy, tax law and Turkish tax system courses, a comprehensive education service supported by fundamental courses in accounting, economics and law is provided. In this context, our main goal is to produce individuals who are equipped to meet the needs of trained personnel at all levels, both in the private and the public sectors, at the same time who have the ability to evaluate economic and financial events from various dimensions. Our department claims to provide a comprehensive and exemplary education to its students with the program it has prepared and implemented based on this understanding. With these sentiments, I wish success to our esteemed colleagues and dear students.
